Unfortunately, the warmer days are drawing to a close, which means that it is time to kit the family out with warmer clothes. That includes buying new pajamas, for everyone. This is especially important if you are the type of family that likes to change into their PJs and curl up on the sofa together to watch a film before bed.
When it comes to women's pajamas there are numerous options. Fashion retailers know just how important this item of clothing is, so make sure their new designs are both appealing and cosy. This year is no exception.
Stylish loungewear
Perhaps the biggest trend is the fact that the emphasis is on loungewear rather than nightwear. A lot of retailers are offering lightweight versions of clothing items that are specifically designed be worn around the house as well as in bed.
Textured fleeces are great examples of this. These can easily be worn over a nightshirt and a pair of jogging bottoms as an alternative to a bulky dressing gown.
In some stores, you can also pick up fleece leggings. These are substantially warmer than most other types of pajama bottoms. They are ideal for wearing around the house, so you can delay having to put the heating on or turn the thermostat down a degree.
Jersey nightwear
Another fabric you rarely see used to make pajamas is being put to good use. Jersey is renowned for its flexibility as well as its warmth, so it really is ideal for wearing in bed. They are super soft too, so they feel good against your skin.
Satin
If the way your clothes feel is important to you, consider investing in a pair of satin pajamas. They are at the more expensive end of the price spectrum but are a great addition to any wardrobe. If you are living on a tight budget consider asking for a set as a special Christmas or birthday present.
Surprisingly, for such a delicate fabric, the majority are machine washable. However, you should always double check that this is indeed the case before buying a set.
Oversized tops
If you tend not to wear a traditional PJ top because you find it too restrictive you will be pleased to see that supersize tops are the norm, for 2017. These allow for better freedom of movement, so are an especially good option for someone who is a restless sleeper.
Lightweight onesies & playsuits
For those of you who move around a lot in bed, a onesie or playsuit can be a good option. Gone are the days when wearing onesies meant the possibility that you would have to go to bed dressed as a giant rabbit. This year’s onesies are far more stylish and sophisticated. The majority of them are made from light, floaty floral fabrics, so they look far more feminine.
Choosing the right nightwear for you
The style of pajamas you choose to wear is very much a question of personal choice. However, there are some important practical considerations that you need to take into account. You can read about them in this article, which has been written by the National Sleep Foundation.
