If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw on my insta stories snippets of a weekend trip my family was on about two weeks ago.  Living in Utah, there are so many things to do.  Especially during the summer.  So for our family bucket list this year, we had put down that we wanted to visit Dinosaur National Monument.  Dave and I had both been as kids and thought it would be fun to take our kids there too because they are all currently obsessed with dinosaurs.  And since Dinosaur National Monument is super close to my family's cabin, aka Crystal Ranch Lodge, we decided to kill two birds with one stone and stay there during our trip; and next week I'll show you all the fun we had there!

Despite almost getting in what could have been a fatal car accident thanks to a senile old lady, this was such a fun trip!  So I thought it would be fun to share a little family vlog we made about this family bucket list item and also include a guide of what to see and do if visiting Dinosaur National Monument is on your family bucket list too!

Family Bucket List:
Dinosaur National Monument

What to see and do at Dinosaur National Monument:

1) Stay at Crystal Ranch Lodge!
The most amazing fly fishing and recreational resort you'll ever stay at in Utah!

2) Take a family photo with Dinah the Dinosaur.
Located in Vernal, UT (just 20 minutes away from Dinosaur National Monument), Dinah is a pink and larger than life dinosaur sign that welcomes you to the city.

3) Visit the Vernal, UT Natural History Museum.
The interior is pretty much like any other natural history museum.  But the exterior portion of the museum has tons of larger than life dinosaurs that are really neat!  Plus admission is super cheap.  Which is always a win!

4) Stop by the Quarry Visitor Center (located in Jensen, UT).
They have a life size stegosaurus out front and some fun relics inside.

5) Ride the shuttle up to the Quarry Exhibit Hall.
Here you can see over 1500 dinosaur bones in what was once a real life dinosaur quarry!  And the best part ever...you can actually touch the dinosaur bones!  My kids went crazy for this!

6) See the petroglyphs.
Just a mile past the Quarry Visitor Center is a tiny section of petroglyphs you can easily hike up to.  The trail is maintained and it took my family less than 2 minutes to get up close and personal with the petroglyphs.  Like I said, it's a tiny section.  But it was perfect for my kids.  However, if you want to see a ton of petroglyphs, you can make a 9 mile drive to a canyon that is filled with them!

7) Take a guided tour on the Fossil Discovery trail.
My kids were too tired and cranky to do this.  But Dave and I both remember doing it as kids and loving the experience!

8) Stargazing with Telescopes.
Did you know Jensen, Utah is one of the worlds last remaining all dark spots?  Meaning the sky there isn't disturbed by light pollution.  Making it extremely easy for the naked eye to see the Milky Way, Constellations, and so much more.  On clear nights you can meet with rangers for a free evening of incredible star gazing.
