Being a parent is tough!  But being a single mom (almost), or have a spouse who is gone all the time, I feel like things get a million times harder!

Who's with me on this?!

I've always had a lot of respect for those who do this whole parenting business on their own.  But once Dave picked up his second job and I found myself alone with the kids from about 8:00 in the morning to around 9:30 at night, I wanted to throw myself at the feet of all those single mamas out there, kiss the ground they walk on, and ask them to tell me just how they do it!

Dave's only been working his second job for two weeks now, and though I feel like the kids and I are finally starting to get used to our new normal, there are still a lot of struggles we are facing.  But somehow, I know there is something to learn from this current phase of life that I'm in.  So while I'm in the thick of it, I'm digging deep, doing my best to let this current hardship transform me into a better person, and praying for all the single moms out there that they can make it through another day.

In other news...

With Dave being gone all the time, I've been simplifying a lot of things in our life.  So in this week's family vlog, you'll see a lot of me and the kids just bumming around.  Ha ha!  Which the go-getter in me has actually welcomed with open arms.  Moving at a slower pace has been such a fresh breath of air, that I think I might do this more often!

Though I wish I could capture everything that happens in our week, I can't.  So here are the things you won't see in our family vlog this week.

Watch this Week's Family Vlog!

Friday, April 21st
Made our weekly donut run with some of our favorite friends.

Saturday, April 22nd
Dave decided it would be fun to surprise the kids with a cereal bar for breakfast.  Which is basically putting out a variety of cereals (mostly the sugary kind) to choose from.  Isaac was so excited about this that he got out bowls for everyone.  Went around asking them what their favorite cereal is, and then pour them a bowl.

Sunday, April 23rd
Started the day off with Church.  Then decided to take the kids for a drive up the canyon to a little mountain town called Wallsburg.  Dave had never seen it before and I am kind of obsessed with it.  So we decided to go check it out.  On the way back, Emi got super car sick, but thankfully didn't throw up in the car!  I remember one year when I was driving home from girl's camp, another girl got car sick.  And before the driver could pull over, the girl threw up everywhere!  Even in the vents.  Flash forward to our incident with Emi and all I could think, was please don't throw up in the vents!  The smell will never leave our car!  Ha ha!

Monday, April 24th
I have dubbed Monday's our "Get House Shiz Done" days.  So that day consisted of washing bed linens, folding and putting away clothes, vacuuming, watering house plants, etc.  But somehow I had some extra time on my hands, so I made a cake.  When it was time to eat it, I gave a little bit to Benson and when his was gone, he yelled at me until I gave hime some of mine!  Ha ha!  Then later on, when Zachary had put his piece of cake on the floor (don't ask) Benson got his hands on that and made a huge mess!   Before putting the kids to bed I hurried to do the dishwasher and Emi excitedly asked if she could help and then told me that she loved putting away dishes with me.  It was super cute and made me even more excited for the things I'll get to do and teach her as she gets older.

Tuesday, April 25th
Zachary wore his red superhero cape for most of the day.  And when we were walking home from taking Emi to preschool, he ran around the school grounds like he was Superman and even threw in some Power Ranger moves to cover all his bases.

When Isaac got home from school, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, you look ooh la la!" which is his current way of saying people look fancy.

We went to visit a friend of ours who has a dog.  Benson stared intently at it the entire time we were there and every so often I would say something like, "That's a dog Benson, can you say dog?".  On our way home, our neighbor's dog followed us out and after staring at it again, Benson looked at me and said, "Dog!" ever so quietly.  It was such a cute moment and my mama heart was bursting with pride at his newest accomplishment.

Wednesday, April 26th
While Zachary was napping, and Emi and Isaac were at school, I was doing the dishes with Benson playing at my feet.  I had the music on in the background and when the song "Crazy in Love" came on, Benson stopped playing and began to bop his body to the music with the biggest smile on his face!

Thursday, April 27th
Made a Target run to buy a few final things for Benson's first birthday this upcoming Monday.

Actually made a dinner that consisted of more than frozen fish, quesadillas, or pizza.

Here's to a fun weekend!  Mine and Dave's 10 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow so we have some fun things planned and I can't wait!
