toddler's birthday party

If you follow me on Instagram or even Twitter, then you saw that we celebrated Zachary's third birthday back toward the beginning of October.  And it was simply the best!  Birthdays are a big deal at our house; so for the past year, it didn't surprise me at all that Zachary spent the months leading up to his birthday talking all about how it would be.  Luckily, there wasn't a lot for me to plan out for boy birthday party ideas, because most things Zachary has been asking to do, are things we have been doing for years with our littles' birthdays.  But one thing I did need to think over, was Zachary's birthday party.  Which he had requested be a Mickey Mouse Pirate party.

Planning a toddler birthday party can be quite tricky sometimes, but putting together this particular toddler birthday party was a breeze!  Sadly, I don't have any pictures from the actual party because I lost my SIM card shortly after the party (insert a million crying emojis right here!).  Just writing about this makes me cry, because there were so many special memories captured on that!  So to keep me from crying a river, that's all I'm going to say about that.  But, before before I move on, I will say that the party treats and Zachary's incredible birthday cake made by The Sweet Tooth Fairy were simply the best!  Did you know the owner, Megan Faulkner Brown makes custom cakes, cupcakes, and cake bites?!  If you're going to be planning a birthday party or any kind of shindig in the near future, I highly recommend using The Sweet Tooth Fairy!

Now on to Zachary's official birthday...that day was simply the best!  In the morning, Dave and I decorated the house with crepe paper and balloons before he woke up, made his favorite...hash browns for breakfast, and then opened some presents.

Once I got the older littles off to school, our afternoon was spent doing Zachary's favorite things.  Which were riding the merry-go-round, eating chicken fingers and french fries and playing arcade games at the Provo Beach Resort.   After that, we picked Emi and Isaac up from school and went home to get ready for my sister Alyson's wedding dinner (yes, my sister got married over Zachary's and my brother's birthdays.  It was a beautiful weekend and I'll be sharing more about that too!) where a special moment was set aside for everyone to sing happy birthday to Zachary and even give him a few presents. Making it the perfect ending to Zachary's special day!

Do you have a toddler that has a birthday coming up and are looking for some birthday party ideas for toddlers?  If so, here are 5 things I always keep in mind when coming up with birthday party ideas for my own toddlers.

5 Things to Know about Planning a Birthday for Your Toddler

1) Let them be involved in the party planning process.

2) Avoid a birthday overload.  At this phase of life, toddlers can get very overwhelmed and go into melt-down mode if there is too much going on.  So think simplified fun.

3) Get the whole family involved.  Toddlers love being around their family.  So a great way to make their birthday more exciting is to make their special day a family effort.

4) Start some traditions.  When a child turns 3, they really start to catch on to things.  So this is a perfect time to start some fun birthday traditions that your toddler can look forward to for years to come!

5) Make the day about them.  Toddlers love to be the center of attention in their own special way.  So go the extra mile keep your birthday boy or girl the focal point of everything you do.

Aren't birthdays the best?! Hope you have so much fun celebrating your own little ones!
