women supporting other women in business

Happy Friday Mums!  Did you know National Friendship day was this Sunday?  I just love all these fun national holidays that our country has because it literally makes it possible for every day to be a celebration!  So, in honor of this particular national holiday, I wanted to share my thoughts on the importance of us women supporting each other because I think it is a very important part of friendship.

** This is my dear friend Alycia.  I met her this past February but we've both said multiple times that it feels like we have known each other for years.  I swear we were cut from the same cloth when we were made and I love it!  Alycia is simply the best and I am so glad I get to call her my friend!   We teamed up a while ago to do this photo shoot together and I the pics would be perfect for this post.  Seeing as we are supporting each other and all ;) **

Those who know me well, know that friendship is super important to me because I didn't have a lot of friends growing up.  Which I talk about in THIS video and THIS post.  Luckily, that all changed for me as I got older and now my life is filled with beautiful women who love looking after and supporting each other.

This world we live in is crazy.  There are so many people doing all that they can to bring women down and make them feel like they don't have a place in this world.  And a lot of these people are women themselves.  Seriously, I don't get it!  But see so much of it on social media.  It really does make me so sad because instead of criticizing each other, us women should be supporting each other in business, our roles as mothers and anything else that we are doing; because the world doesn't need any more ugliness in it.

So how do we do it?  How do we create an environment online where us women can happily support each other in the online world?  I really don't think there is one "right" answer. But instead, a few good golden rules to follow.

 Supporting Other Women Online

1) Loose the Tunnel Vision
Though social media can easily make you think that it's only about you.  It just isn't true!  Yes, you are special and one of kind.  But so is everyone else in their own way.  So take some time to branch out of your own social media profile and interact with other women sharing good things.  Not only will this open your eyes to all the incredible things people are saying and doing in the world, but it will also send these women back to your own profile and give them the opportunity to support you in what you are doing too.

2) Take the time to leave genuine comments

"You're amazing" or "Love how talented you are!" are great comments and are always a good pick-me-up.  But we all feel like a million bucks when someone comes to one of social media outlets and leaves a very sincere comment in response to a post that we shared.  So when time allows, make sure you take a moment to pay it forward and leave genuine comments on other women's feeds too.

3) Bring Awareness to personal needs
Thanks to social media, it is super easy to get the word out when another woman is in need.  Recently, a really well-know social media influencer announced that her husband was dying of cancer.  In an instant, I had received several direct messages through Instagram and event invites on Facebook about pop-up shops people were doing to help raise money to ease the financial burdens of this woman and her family were experiencing from this terrible disease.  A lot of the women putting together these events had only met this woman through social media; never having met in real life.  Yet they instantly came together to support her in a time of need.  It was a truly incredible and heart warming thing to experience.  And, if you want to show some support to this woman, you can visit her site HERE.

4) Share other women's content
A great way to support other women in business, especially online businesses, is by sharing what they are doing on your on social media platforms.  There are a lot of people out there trying to diminish the things we are doing in the online world.  So it is super import to stick together and show what we support each other in what we are trying to achieve.

5) Collaborate
Collaborating is one of my personal favorite ways to see women supporting other women.  If you use Instagram, then at some point in time, you have seen what is known as a "Follow Friday".  A movement in which a group of people come together in the Instagram world to give shout outs to each other on their personal feeds.  A lot of these people have never met in person and just reach out to one another via a direct message to put together one of these following posts.  And of course my favorite "Follow Fridays" are always the ones that involve moms :).  So, if you are interested in doing one of these yourself, think of 4 other women that you love to follow on social media.  Send each of them a group direct message and begin coordinating your own #followfriday. You can see one of my favorite ones HERE

And there you have it!  It really is that simple.  So here's to getting out there, supporting each other, and spreading the love!
