end of summer activities for kids

The other day I stood by my back door and watched my littles in our backyard.  They were by our tiny wooden playhouse enjoying the sunny weather and happily playing "house" with each other.  Emi was the mom and was busy "doing the dishes" and "making food"; giving Zachary the task of collecting unripened apples from our tree for her to transform into yummy treats.  And Isaac was in our garden digging up dirt to fill the empty flower boxes of their play house with so that they could then be filled with flowers to "make their house look more beautiful."

I smiled as I watched my littles play.  Thinking about how fun this summer had been, how soon it was going to end, and how I've really been trying to cram in as many fun end of summer activities that I possibly could to make these last remaining weeks memorable for my littles.

One of these activites was making a final trip out to our cabin.  If you follow me on Instagram, then you've seen a ton of fun adventures we've had there!  This place is one of mine and my littles' favorite places in the entire world, and only a 2.5 hour drive from our house.  So on a day when Dave had to stay late at work, I packed up our bags, loaded all four of my littles into the car, and headed out to meet my family at the ranch for a day trip which was simply magical!

We arrived around noon and ate lunch first.  Then we headed out to play before the storm clouds rolled in.

First, we went for a walk around the property and checked out Grandpa's newest Ranch equipment before we eventually made it back to the grassy knoll in front of the cabin for a game of tag.   Emi and Zachary laughed their heads off as they ran in circles around Benson; who was cooing and wiggling around in his  modfamily shade tent as he excitedly watched his crazy siblings.  And I couldn't help but get excited as I thought about him one day getting to play right alongside his big brothers and sister.  Next, came a game of tether ball and log hopping and then it was time to head in because the storm had finally arrived.

When the rain finally stopped we headed back out for some gator rides through the tall grasses and cow spotting.  My family rents our property out to local ranchers in the summer so they can send their herds into pasture for the summer.  The littles absolutely love it!  Especially because there are a ton of darling baby calves roaming around!

Eventually, we made our way back to the cabin once more and it was time to eat dinner and get ready to leave.  While I cooked up some grilled cheese sandwiches with Benson, the other littles loaded up into the truck with grandma and grandpa and drove over to Jackson Lake, on the far end of the property, to bring some of grandpa's ranch equipment back to the barn.  By the time they got back, everyone was starving and quickly gobbled up their food.

Once everyone was done eating, I sent the littles downstairs to watch a movie while I cleaned up dinner and helped my mom tidy up the cabin.  Then it was time to go.  The littles were sad to leave, but so tired from a hard day of play that there were no tears and hardly any protesting.  THANK GOODNESS!  By 11:00 p.m. that night, we had made it back safe and sound to our bungalow.  And just like that I had knocked one of my end of summer activities off my list.  With only 14 days left until school starts, we still have a lot fun end of summer activities to do.  But the trip out to the ranch will by far be one of my favorites!

P.S. If you're looking for a fun place to go with your own littles, my family rents out our ranch year round!  You can check out more info HERE.
