loving the life you have
Yesterday I was talking to some of my mom friends about social media and how much we love and equally hate the gosh darn thing.  Anyone else with me?

Thanks to social media, it is super easy for us moms to connect with friends, hunt down the perfect recipe for dinner, get inspiration for our homes, and so much more!  But, it is also really easy to get caught up in everything you are viewing and feel like the life you are living is barely even sub par.

Recently, I found myself getting sucked into this self loathing black hole that social media can create.  I hated everything about the way I looked, wished I had a bigger (and nicer) home, couldn't stand to wear the things I had hanging in my closet, extremely desperate for a more substantial income, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

I was super envious of all these beautifully "perfect" lives that constantly filled my feed and couldn't understand why my life wasn't just like the ones I was seeing.

One day, when I was in a particular low slump, I decided that I was fed up with feeling this way and decided to pull out my journal and write a list of all the things that were going 'right' in my life.  Before I knew it, I had pages filled with things that I had been blessed with and my perspective and attitude instantly shifted.

I may not have a killer body, Pinterest worthy home, or beautiful high-end clothing to wear.  But I do have 4 beautiful healthy children, a body that was able to birth all 4 children, killer hat collection, fridge and cupboards full of nutritious food to feed my family 3 meals a day, sturdy roof over my head, comfy bed to sleep in, working car to get me from place to place, and a family that loved me despite my many flaws.

Every day, we come across countless 'perfect' lives.  But it's important to remember that what we are seeing on social media are the highlights of each person's life.  At the end of the day, we all have our own struggles that we don't share online.  No life is perfect.  And in a way, I think that's a good thing because the imperfections in our lives can really help us appreciate what we have and love the shoes we're in.

So, here's to not comparing and simply loving the lives we live!
