valentine's day breakfast
Yesterday, my kids woke up at 6:45 a.m.  Dave and i had been talking about valentine's day all week and the fun day we were going to have as a family, so for them, it was like waking up on Christmas morning. Even though we didn't do a ton.  I think just talking about Valentine's day and the fun time we were going to have spending it together as a family was enough excitement for them.

But, as my kids have gotten old and begun to grasp the excitement of the holidays, I have really tried to make each holiday magical in some way because this phase of my children's life is very short and I want to make each moment count.  And since kids, especially mine, are really easy to please, adding that extra something to the holidays has been really easy to do because all it takes is some toys from the dollar aisle at Target and some of my kids' favorite foods to make them happy.

Currently, my kids, Isaac mostly, have really been into what we call "fancy meals",  which means we pull out the table linens, glass plates, fancy glasses, and decorative silverware.  So, this year, I decided it would be fun to have a fancy Valentine's Day breakfast, which consisted of

* setting our table in anything that related to Valentine's Day in color, shape, or form.

*fancy breakfast foods that each of my kids love- bacon for zachary, strawberries and homemade whipped cream for isaac, and heart shaped chocolate chip scones for emi.

Surprisingly though, all of the kids decided that bowl full of homemade whipped cream was best thing I made for our Valentine's Day breakfast and together, and at one point they all ended up double dipping their spoons into the bowl until they had devoured it all!

*a little gift bag for each of my kids filled with a few valentine's day themed items that i found in the dollar section at target.  The notebook and multi-colored pen ended up being the biggest hit of the day!

And that's it!

Sure, putting together this Valentine's Day breakfast required work on my end,  but it was work well worth it when each of kids happily showed or expressed that this was, "the best valentine's day ever!"

The world makes life seem so complicated sometimes,  especially during the holidays.  And i am one of those guilty people who got caught up in all the hub-bub A L L the time!  But, when I suddenly realized that love and time were the things my kids want and thrive off of most in this life,  all the unnecessary holiday stress put on by the marketing world quickly melted away.  And I've been able to create a home for my family that is filled with love, meaningful traditions, and time, which is what being a mom is all about for me.

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
