Christmas is all about traditions in mi casa. We must see Santa, make a gingerbread house, look at lights, watch holiday movies, decorate the tree and the house, bake stuff, and sing holiday songs forever. We love traditions. Speaking of traditons, who else thinks of Fiddler on the Roofs, "Tradition!"  If you haven't seen this classic film I highly recommend it. This could be a good Christmas detox movie in January. Haha.
 
It's great to have married into a family with so many fun and awesome traditions. My in-laws happen to love this movie and ironically make these Persimmon cookies around Christmas time. Last year I shared my in-laws German Pancakes recipe and this year I'd like to share their Persimmon Cookie tradition with you.
 
What the heck is a Persimmon anyway? A persimmon is fruit kinda shaped like a tomato but the fleshy stuff inside is more sweet. I personally love the way Persimmons look. Their orange color and lovely textured leaves are beautiful to me. Hence the tons of pictures you see I took. You all know I love photography anyways. And if you didn't know that well "Hello", my name is Natashia and I like to take photos. Well you've held on long enough through my randomness, here's the recipe my lovelies.
 
 

Glazed Persimmon Cookies 

 
1/2 cup shortening
 
 
*1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 

2. To take the skins of the Persimmons, slice off the stems.


3. Cut the Persimmons in fourths and run the knife along the outside separating the flesh from the skin.

4. Blend pulp together and set aside.

5. Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
 
6. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir flour mixture into creamed sugar mixture.
 
7. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt and persimmon pulp; mix well.
 
8. Drop by the teaspoonful on greased or parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
