Pie.

The quintessential Thanksgiving dessert.

Devoured in seconds, but taking hours to make, this dessert, is one heck of a conquest for those who choose to put their heart, soul, + if it were me making it...some of their very best profanities +maybe even a few tears (yeah, we'll just say that pie making isn't my best talent) into it.  SO, why not make your pie a focal point of your holiday feast setup?  Showcasing it by placing it atop a beautiful + vintage inspired pie stand that you yourself, created.

Thanksgiving decorations idea: vintage pie stand

Yes, Thanksgiving is all about being with those you love and sharing all that you are grateful for, but heck, it can also be a little bit about highlighting your talents too!

Now, I know DIY pie stands have been around FOR.EV.ER.  But, I love them regardless + I have created many for myself and others; using the following three guidelines

***************

1) Use items for your base that are smaller in height and feature a wide base.  Personally, I love to use such things as flat rimmed ice cream dishes, bowls, + candy dishes.  All of which I turn upside down to give me a supportive base.

2) Choose plates that aren't too heavy or light in weight + aren't too big, or too small for your base.

3) Character, character, character!  I love using pieces that are consistent of colored glass, have unique and eye catching designs, and feature

***************

To ensure that each stand I make won't end up in the garbage or right back on a thrift store shelf that once housed its individual pieces.

Have I convinced you yet to let go of your inhibitions and make one yourself?  Good, I thought so!

Here's what you need to do...

Vintage Pie Stands

1 Vintage Plate

1 Vintage Stand (ice cream cup, bowl, candy dish, etc.)

Paper Plate

Plastic Knife

LOCTITE Epoxy (you can get this at your local Home Depot or Lowes for about $5.)

1. Find where the center of your plate is, and then use a permanent marker to place a small dot there as a reference point.  OR, you can be lazy like me + just eye ball it when you do STEP 4.

2. Cut off the tip of your Epoxy and squeeze on to your paper plate however much you think you'll need to cover the top portion of your base + the bottom side of your plate where you will be attaching your base.

3.  With your plastic knife, mix your Epoxy together + then spread it around your base + also around the center of your plate, making sure that the circumference is the same size as your base.

3.  With your plastic knife, mix your Epoxy together and then spread it around your base + also around the center of your plate, making sure that the circumference is the same size as your base.

4. Assemble your base and your plate + let dry.  On the package, it states that the Epoxy will dry in 6 minutes, but it will take 24 hrs. to guarantee that your base + plate won't separate, so put your pie stand in a safe place + let time do the rest of the work.  Seriously, go eat a bowl of ice cream.  You deserve it!

5. Use your new vintage pie stand at your Thanksgiving dinner + be prepared for endless compliments!  HOLLA!
