When it comes to the 4th of July, there are countless things I love about this particular holiday.  However, the one thing I adore the most are the the flashes and flares of illumination that take place at night.  Once the sun slinks past the horizon, clusters of light continuously fill the warm night air; turning even the smallest of cities into a metropolis of light.

With this holiday just a week away, most of you Mumsies have most likely purchased your annual supply of fireworks, sparklers, and even glow sticks.  But, have you purchased anything that will add an extra twinkle to your nests?  If not, I have an easy solution.

Paper Bag Lanterns!

I'm sure you have seen these many times before; but this time around, we are adding a patriotic twist to them.  Here's what you do:

Gather the Following:

> Red and blue paper bags-I got mine 3 for $1 at Walmart in the gift wrap aisle.

>  Tea light candles-Can buy a package of 16 for $1 at your local dollar store.

> Patriotic Printables-Found at the bottom of this post.

> Paper clips.

> Push pin.

Optional: Empty, glass, baby food jars.

Make your lanterns:

1. Center one of your printables on top of one of your paper bags.

2. To keep the printable from moving, secure it by paper clipping the left and right side to the paper bag.

3. Using your push pin, begin to punch holes into your printable; outlining the entire thing.

*Note: The more holes you punch = the more light that will be able to shine through.

4. When your entire printable has been covered in holes, remove your printable and admire your new and festive paper lantern.

5. Open up your bags and place them in a easily viewed area outside.  Place a tea light candle in the bottom each bag, light each candle, and enjoy!

*Note: If you also set aside some empty, glass, baby food jars, you can place your candles in there, and then place the jar in the bag...so as to better preserve your lanterns and use them for years to come!  Something I most definitely appreciate, because I just don't have time to keep redoing crafts every year!
