Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Recipe and the Benefits of Eating as a Family

I have noticed that when my family eats together it strengthens my family. The children are excited when we all come to the table. They crave my attention and want to be recognized and express themselves. We all need this to some degree, I think. And dinner time is the perfect time for these individual needs to be met. It's been interesting to see the difference when I give my time completely to my children, even for a short time. We also have discussed not having phones at the table and recently my son reminded me of this rule. I put down my phone, I look them in the eye, and let them know they have me for the next little bit. My oldest, in particular, is extremely receptive to this. He is less defiant and has greater compassion for his siblings. And by me giving my time we all gain a greater bond.

I know this topic is not a new one. There's research and articles galore out there. One source says that by eating as a family, children are often healthier stating, "Kids who ate more meals together with their families tended to eat more fruits, vegetables, fiber, calcium-rich foods, and vitamins, and ate less junk food."(1) The article then states that, "social improvements were also linked to frequency of family meals. Teens who ate at the family table more often were more likely to show fewer signs of depression and feel that their family was more supportive, compared with teens who dined less often at home." So there is some great benefits from sitting together and connecting.

This may not be the exact case for your family and with busy schedules it can be tough. You may need to adapt according to your family and set realistic goals for your family. And that's ok. I am a mom too and therefor encounter hectic situations that destroy normal routines all the time. Honestly we don't always sit down as a family, but I have noticed that when I make an effort to there is greater peace in my home. So I share this in hopes that it may make your day just a little sweeter and bring greater happiness to your home.

Speaking of dinner, I have an easy and tasty recipe to share with you. You know at Mumsy we like to share the easy ones with you. This is also a great base recipe that someone could get creative with. Add grilled pineapples. Use the marinade for kabobs with peppers. The possibilities are endless.
